Halloween Badassedness

October 22, 2010

I am off to a PR conference today – trying to do the damn thing job-wise and get hooked up before school gets out…but I wanted to share this little piece of Halloween awesomeness I found via Paper Tastebuds from Brooklyn Limestone. It’s just too awesome not to share.

It’s a Creature Survival Kit Halloween Invitation…and it’s amazing. You should definitely check out the rest of the detail shots on Paper Tastebuds.

I’m with Kerry on Halloween, in that I’m not all that into dressing up and what not…I do love carving pumpkins though…This year, Isaiah and I wanted to go as The Dude and Walter from The Big Lebowski. Me as The Dude, Isaiah as Walter…but we got too lazy as usual to go all out. Anyways, we love Halloweens cuddled up at home, watching scary movies…BUT if we were gonna get all ghouled out, it would be because of receiving one of these invites.

On a different note – Isaiah and I designed the tshirts for my student PR organization and I think they turned out badass, despite resistance on a couple levels from some folks. Check them out in my awkward self-portrait. I was not photogenic today, so this is what you get. My apologies. Also, that is not what my eye looks like. F*cking fisheye or somethin’, right?

What do you think of the shirts? Can I geek for a second and say it’s pretty kickass to wear and see 30+ other people wearing shirts we designed? It’s got me tweakin’ a little on campus.

Are you dressing up for Halloween? If you have a badass couple costume suggestion, make it, because I’ve heard some of the girls groaning about the lack of costume idea-age. Share the idea wealth – you’re not gonna run into each other the same street or anything…haha.

Also – I’m curious what Halloween traditions you guys do? Do you still get up in your getups and go out around town or do you stay in with scary movies…or what?

My family goes all out for Halloween. Huge bash, metal bands (if we’re lucky) and keg stands.

Ok. About the metal bands. It’s my uncle and his friends. They’re almost 40. Haha. But it’s still rad. And yes. We will be getting dressed up.

And great job on the shirts! They look awesome!

Just constantly have a white russian in your hand all night and you could still do the Big Lebowski thing. And get really, really drunk at the same time.

Sidenote* we get to have a “signature cocktail” during our reception in addition to the bar and the options on the venue’s list were super lame. So we’re having a white russian instead, in honor of the BL.

Haha, that’s definitely an essential part of it. WHAT?! That’s the best sidenote…ever, I think.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I don’t really like the dressing up part. It stresses me out too much to figure out an original costume. And I don’t like store bought costumes (probably because I never had a store bought costume growing up, so it feels like cheating).

I like carving pumpkins, I like the candy, I like the decorations — especially going all out on outside yard decor. I’m not big on scary movies. If I had my way, I’d be giving out candy to kids. Unfortunately we live in an apartment full of college students, so there won’t be any children going door to door. I don’t normally like children, but Halloween is one of those times I love them.

We are so similar lady. I say that often…that I’m not the biggest fan of kids, but Halloween is definitely one of those times…and we live in a similar apt. complex…so what’s the point of dressing up and getting all ready? It’s sad how defeated I’ve become about Halloween, really. Maybe we should have a revival.

I am so not the dressing up for Halloween type. While I’ll go to a party every now and then, it’s not my thing. By age 10 I had even given up trick or treating because I was too lazy to think of a costume.

But I agree with you that pumpkin carving is awesome. I’ve been scouring the internets for ideas this year and can’t wait to get started!

Haha – I’m with you…I think my mom always tried to dress me up in the MOST elaborate costumes (until way too late in my elementary school/early middle school career) for me to like Halloween anymore….I was always in an elaborate part-handmade, part-storebought getup of either a gypsy, Jasmine from Aladdin…or a jester. Oh God, the year of the jester.

The t-shirts look fantastic! As for Halloween, I’m feeling less than super motivated to put something together, but since none of our SF friends have ever seen our old costumes, it might just be time to recycle! I’ve pulled out a swimsuit/sparkly gown my mom made me in high school for Jessica Rabbit (along with a red wig and purple opera gloves) and an outrageous pink flamingo costume!

That sounds awesome! Sounds like you done already put somethin’ together, lady! Thanks!

We only get the kids every other year for Halloween, so we don’t actually have any special plans this year, but we’re planning a fun day-time Halloween craft/costume play time this weekend.

Oh, wait. You want to know what WE do for Halloween. Hmm. I haven’t dressed up myself since I had kids to dress up (way more fun).

Haha you guys have a whole different kind of blast goin’ on for Halloween. As much as I don’t generally like children in my vicinity…I can’t wait for the day we get to dress our little munchkins up like strawberries and lions and m&ms…
