Geek-Out: 1st Edition

July 7, 2010

[Insert segue back to weddings] Aaaand, we’re back. We took a slight break from wedding shtuff for my wisdom toofers. So I am fully aware that I’m not a wedding inspiration gal, but this is a wedding blog, right? So, theoretically, if there were a few things I was geeking out over the blogosphere, that wouldn’t make me an SMP impersonator, would it?

Gosh, I hope not.

Anyways. I am on day 7 of quitting smoking, in case you’re wondering. As I posted in a reply comment to the lovely Alison, I think I may be too damned stubborn not to quit at this point. {Knock on wood}

So I’m geeking out over a few things.

First is this favor idea I spotted on Wedding Chicks from Scout Books. 3.5×5″ notebooks you can have your custom artwork printed on as favors. I went through the process to be sure it was the real deal, and it’s really simple, eco-friendly, if that’s something you’re concerned with. I am especially loving the green composition notebook shtyle. It’s actually really affordable for as cool as it is as well. The only crappy thing? From what I could tell, if you are inviting 150 guests, you have to order 250 notebooks.

Maybe I’ve been hiding under a shady tree for too long, but I haven’t heard of Paloma’s Nest until within the last few weeks. You know that thing…where you just find out about something…and then all of a sudden, every person you meet is just yakkin away about it? Yeah…I can’t explain why these delightfully simple things resonate with me…maybe because I’m usually drawn to bright & loud and intricate designs and what not…this is just such a a nice contrast…Anyways, Just Wenderful is having a giveaway for one of those adorable little Cherish bowls. Go and enter with haste.

I’m a sucker for letterpress. After seeing some kickass designs of theirs on 100 Layer Cake, I am diggin’ Hammerpress‘ style, yo. I especially love that last one, the grey and white. Maybe because my own insides are attacking me wondering “What the hell is that rockin typeface?! Did they make that themselves?!”

I’m currently geeking out over two photographers, simultaneously, in a geek-fest. He & She Photography has been featured on a flobbity-jillion blogs and I can’t even begin to cite, at this point, where I heard of them…I’m thinking it might have been Hi-Fi Weddings. Intentions count for something, don’t they? Anyways, I love their style and their freaking beautiful web design.  I also really dig those bridesmaids dresses {in both}!

I have a slight photography-crush on Ben Blood. Yeah, I know I’m not alone. Every wedding he posts, I go a little gaga over. I have a feeling, at some point, that rad couples flocked to his style because of his ability to make them even more rad. He was the one responsible for this engagement session, which I’m sure you remember, and this treehouse, yes, treehouse wedding:

In addition to the pretty, I’m still geeking out over Meg’s Partnership Mission Statement and Sara’s gathering of self-written ceremony scripts. If you haven’t visited their corners of the sandbox, it’s time. That’s all. We’re working on a template for tomorrow and a project we’re hoping to unleash tomorrow.

Bah! Amma, you are awesome. You’ll be in next week’s geek-out, guaranteed. You know I die a little bit over your blog everyday. And yes, Ben Blood…

Congrats on day 7 of no smoking!

And man, I got some blogs to read. How the heck does one keep up with all the great wedding blogs out there???

Bahaha. I’m aware with the mountain of it all. I think being home 24 hours a day recovering from wisdom teeth extractions helps.

Such great finds! Love, love, love the notebooks. And how cool is that treehouse? So fun.

AH! That last photo scares me a bit…. that’s *gulp* the wedding that had me crying on the floor every night for months.

But the rest of it- veddy purdy!

Oh no!! Is it?! GAH I never had the skills to pick the pretties, [accepting shame].

Awesome fun things!! I fell hard for Paloma’s Nest…still debating whether to make a little splurge or not (I think I’ve entered 10 different chances for a giveaway and hasn’t happened yet) and Meg’s Partnership Mission Statement is bookmarked on my comp!

Thanks too for the notebook link..how cute are they?!

Hope your teef are feeling better! And sending you a big high five for 1 wk of the non smoking life out of the way! 🙂

Thanks! They’re actually really affordable! I’m sure the ring-bearer’s pillow is, unfortunately, something I’ll forget until the day of, BUT they have such cute wooden stationary!

Ooh Lord. Posts like this are bad for me to read becuase it gets the wheels turning about other stuff I want/want to do. I am in lovee with those notebooks and bridesmaid dresses too! And the rainbow cloud sweaters for sure

Haha. I feel ya, our wedding is still such a blank slate that I love looking at inspiration boards and everything, BUT it is a big vortex of messy ideas up there. I started a new thing in the last week of everytime I look at another person’s wedding, if I can’t practically fathom how to get certain details I love, done, I just delete it, haha. Picnic it is, eh?

I hear you – I have a similar obsession with Ben Blood’s work and Sarah’s collection of wedding ceremonies helped me a lot when writing our ceremony script.

    • July 8, 2010 4:37 pm

That’s great! We haven’t even begun to think about writing the ceremony, definitely know we will, though.
