From Her Friday: Clutter.

August 27, 2010

Isaiah is starting classes in October at The Art Institute of FW. We’re so excited for him to be back in school and in such a great program that fits his interests. I have an interview for an internship with the school’s radio station, which definitely fits my interests. Unpaid, however. Which is definitely going to prove a challenge. I did get a part-time job with my old employer for the meantime, but it’s a 45-minute drive, so the paycheck will be so minuscule after gas and taxes. Anyway, things seem to be plateauing and we might have found a way to survive here in this situation. We are loving the amount of time we get to spend together, that’s for sure.

But the wedding. Ah, the wedding. We so want to be married. We needed to book the venue a year and a half from the wedding date, and because of our current financial situation and how busy we are trying to remedy it, we keep pushing back the date, pushing it back.

I am starting to feel the pressure of venues not calling back quickly enough and the date keeps walking backward into the winter in Chicago, which is forcing the wedding to definitely be indoors. I feel like taking a 4 month break on planning to finish the semester up, but then there’s job hunting and first job out of college starting up and I just don’t know. Doesn’t seem like there’s a point to pushing it back, we’re always going to be busy.

I have major, major respect for those of you who just came out the other side successfully. It seems like it’s just getting harder and harder to find time. If you have any tips, you know I am always open.

This was us in Branson, on the boat. Isaiah looks so nice, eh?! [cheesy smile]

I relapsed on smoking while I was in Europe, but now I’m 3+ weeks into quitting again. Feels pretty nice, I guess. We’re doing yoga and pilates every morning when we wake up, which is kicking our butt and also refreshing the new day for us. What’s new with YOU guys!? Jeez, I feel like it’s been a year, eh?

    Totally feels like forever…

You guys look great! Having fun in the sun, I see!

Let me tell you- I thought we would never make it. But my favorite memory of the day (besides dancing with my grandma) is standing on top of a hill with Josh overlooking the picnic pavilion, smoking bbq pit and all of our loved ones. We felt so accomplished and so, so happy. It was very rewarding. Pushing through will be worth it.

And my little tip for you- take stuff off your to-do list. It helped us tons. If it was too expensive or took too much time, it was X-ed. And I can’t even think of what we crossed off our list because with or without those things, we would have had an equally amazing day.

And congrats on all the super awesome stuff you and Isaiah have lined up!

Congrats on getting something somewhat figured out during this time! Last year, Tony found himself suddenly out of work and at loose ends. He spent a semester in school, which was enough time to figure out what he really wanted to do and recover from the shock of it all. When he decided to send his resume around, it only took him a few weeks to find a new position.

Don’t lose hope. Sometimes taking time to take stock of your situation is the best thing you can do.

Not sure what you have in mind for a wedding date, but if it’s after ours, you are welcome to some of our wedding stuff as well.

Wow, a few weeks! Sounds like a trying time, but at least a few weeks had a payoff at the end! I graduate in December and things are just getting more and more confusing the closer I get to graduation. Isaiah and I have a joke that you know a freshman/sophomore in college because they’re so sure about what they want to do: “Getting my degree in journalism, gonna graduate with honors and get a spot with the Dallas Morning News as an entertainment editor and win the Pulitzer by the time I’m 30.”
Junior year is all: “Graduating with a degree in journalism. Hoping for a spot in the entertainment industry.”
Senior year is all: “Why the hell am I in college again!? SOMEONE straighten me out!”

      I’m in that last phase.
