The New Blog: Introduction

We love this Blog. It was our first Blog. It was one of the first artistic endeavors that we’ve done together (except music, which we’ll talk about sometime soon). The problem? We started this Blog as a completely personal endeavor for ourselves to keep things organized and it quickly turned into something our families wanted to follow to see where we were in our wedding journey.

The first wedding Blog I found was 2000 Dollar Wedding. I left the most embarrassing comment my first day out and about in the world. I blatantly cut and pasted my URL and asked her to “Come check out my Blog!” Yikes. I hardly recovered from that embarrassment when I met Angie, who opened the doors to a completely different world of blogging.

I love 2000 Dollar Wedding. I really do. However, I’m more swank-oriented, an indie-rocker chick, I don’t do well outdoors…although I would like to. My family has a joke that “camping” to my mom and I is staying in a hotel without a pool. Although my trip this past summer did make me more comfortable being a person who doesn’t rely on air-conditioning, cars, refills, etc…I still have certain pictures in my mind of how I want our wedding to look. Nevermind that Isaiah does not like hippie culture. This is all just a huge tangent to tell you that while we LOVE and respect what 2000 Dollar Wedding has to offer, we had different pictures in our minds.

Which brings us to this “community” we’ve stumbled into and love. I don’t know how clear I make this, but Isaiah is completely involved in every post. Whether it’s just being a sounding board for me to rattle off the latest post against, being a completely equal contributing writer or coming up with ideas to share on the Blog, he is involved every day.

That being said, I don’t like this Blog anymore.

I don’t like the theme we’re using on WordPress. I LOVE WordPress. I don’t like the “look” we fostered way too early on and that doesn’t suit us whatsoever. I don’t like the .wordpress.com after our URL. I don’t like the title.

We decided a long time ago that we wanted a Blog that Isaiah and I could both feel a part of.

We settled on an idea, and I hope, I really hope you’re along for the ride. I love this community, and I’m a person who says “I love you” when I feel it, and I love all of you.

Our new Blog has a slightly different direction, but that’s okay. It’s still just us behind it. We love design, we love weddings, we love typography, we love music, we love art. As I said, we love weddings. But we don’t want to only Blog about weddings.

We want a Blog we can grow into after the wedding and one that we don’t feel guilty if we post something non-wedding-related. So the new Blog serves two purposes. It serves to offer us a broader space that we can post within. The majority of which will still be weddings and real-fucking-talk. But some of it will be design, art, inspiration we find around the web that we have you in mind for when we share it.

The second is that we are not necessarily planning a $10,000 wedding anymore. We’ve stumbled on so many places that could mean a $5k wedding or a $7k wedding. Basically, we feel boxed in.

This may be far too many details for you. Maybe you’re like, “WTF, you’re getting a new Blog, move on, jeez.” But if you’re not, we’re excited to do this.

We came up with the name “Love Your Way.” Partly because of the Peter Frampton song (one of our favorite scenes in High Fidelity)…and because of the whole, “Love, Your Way” idea. We hope you enjoy the new look…the new content…and the new vibe-age.

When it’s all set, we’ll give you a link for a while, and then permanently redirect this site to the new domain, so we hope we don’t lose you.

Also, what do you think about the new header? Be brutally honest.

*Disclaimer, I realize this is semi-coinciding with the long-awaited-for-some release of The Knotty Bride Blog, but we tried to get it done as quickly as possible. Also, the launch of our new blog may be a bit anti-climactic after Alison launches the badassery of her new site.

Lizzie, bravo. Really. I totally respect where you’re at, and I am genuinely excited for what’s to come! Blogging is such an acquired hobby, and for most of us, it’s just that… a hobby.

The day a hobby feels like a chore is the day to re-evaluate what you loved about it in the first place, and get back to that place. You are not just a blogger, but a writer. I feel you through your words, and I am so glad that you and Isaiah are continuing to grow in your art.

I look forward to your renewed sense of passion. I think your new title and header are freeing and limitless, and I truly look forward to what’s to come!

Thank you SO much! You’re making me majorly blush! I definitely second that…when you’re struggling to find “wedding-related-nonsensery” it’s time to broaden your horizons a bit. Thanks so much, glad you like the new direction!

Like the new header! That’s all I wanted to say so I hope that doesn’t count as being a lame comment 🙂

I laughed quite a bit about the embarrassing blog comment! Not that I know you well, but it doesn’t strike me as something you would do! We’ve all made our share of awkward social media mistakes, I’ll be the first to admit! Actually I feel exactly the same as you minus I have no tech savvy-ness to do anything about it, although I did manage to get rid of the wordpress.com! My blog started as a small hobby, that I fell in love with. I am not in the wedding industry and now that my wedding is over it is increasingly difficult to figure out what to post. But the thought of abandoning it all together pains me. So I say kudos to you for planning ahead and broadening your scope. I love what you post either way and I’d welcome a not only wedding change. Who knew little old wedding blogs would bring us into this incredible community of people that I literally consider to be friends! I too have been contemplating how to evolve mine into the future as I do not foresee blogging about weddings forever and frankly I think I have much more interesting things to say that are not wedding related. Anyway, all the preceding crap was just the long way of saying Congrats and I can’t wait to see the new site! Oh in my meaningless opinion I think the header could use a touch more color.

haha yeah, that was definitely a huge faux pas. someday maybe i’ll get around to apologizing to miss Sarah about it! Thanks so much! We’ll work on that, we really wanted the content and what not to not clash with the colors and everything…which they do now…so we’ll see what we can make happen!

ahhh so awesome. I love the title (and how it can be said/read many ways)! and the header looks badass as well. I look forward to following along. Someday I too will come up with a new blog title/theme/etc and actually figure out how to run a real website. You’re an inspiration! Also, very cool that y’all are in this together. love it love it looove it.

Girl, I totally GET where you’re coming from in terms of making major changes to one’s blog. (You’ll see what I mean on my next Brave Bride post.) What I’ve discovered is that people do their best work when they’re honest about how they feel, what they want, and what they’ve outgrown. So props to you for responding to the shifts in your creativity! You AND your readers will benefit from it. 🙂 Love the new title, btw!

  10. November 22, 2010 3:54 pm

Glad you girls like it! That means a lot, thanks so much!

  11. November 22, 2010 8:49 pm

The site looks like it’s going to be absolutely beautiful, and don’t worry about competing with Ms Knotty over there-it’s time for a blog facelift for both of you!

I cannot WAIT to see the new site!

  12. November 22, 2010 10:47 pm

I love it! That’s why I redid my wordpress to new website too. It’s much more me and after the wedding part is over, I can go back to posting nerdy things but still put up pretty stuff too. I couldn’t do it without the support of our great big loving community and I couldn’t be happier with my decision; I can’t wait to read your new material and design. ❤

  13. November 23, 2010 11:07 am

I love it! Love the design; love the concept. I agree with BonafideBride that you a a writer (not just a blogger,) and I so look forward to your sharing your thoughts on art and writing and rock-n-roll and design. Go on with your bad self sister!

    • November 23, 2010 11:30 am

You’re so sweet, Christie! Thanks so much! I’m really excited as well for the possibilities… 🙂

  14. November 23, 2010 2:37 pm

Girrrrl you make me laugh. And I am way excited for your new blog. People re-launch, re-brand, re-design all the time so don’t you worry one little bit about who else might also be re-doing their sites. It doesn’t make your news any less exciting or your new header any less gorge. 😉 I look forward to reading it and joining the “Love Your Way” community. Good luck!

  15. November 23, 2010 4:54 pm

Yay. I love the new header and the name is perfect.

  16. November 26, 2010 11:23 pm

I’m not surprised at all and am glad you’re going to introduce your new blog to reflect the multi faceted dimensions of the life of Lizzie and Isaiah. Because after the wedding the conversation will continue and I sure hope to be part of that community. Great idea for the name and the design. 🙂 Hope you have lots of fun during your photography session! Happy day-after-Thanksgivingn to you both.

Been meaning to come back and congratulate you on the new blog design and header for ages but I was having a bit of drama with Askimet. Now it is all fixed I wanted to say pretty much the same as everyone else. One I love the new header it looks great, and number two I can’t wait to see what you and Isaiah come up with for the new site. I know that it will be gorgeous! Can’t wait for the all new blog!
