APW Meetup

November 8, 2010

As I imagined, the Practical Wedding Meetup was an awesome day. There were four of us in Dallas (one of whom was sweet enough to give my broke-ass a ride who lives in the same area as I do and is originally from Chicago…oh, hello). It was a beautiful day, started out sunny and ended pretty chilly and windy on the patio of an Irish pub.

We talked about the book – mainly got recaps from the two who got a chance to read it. Then, for approximately the next six hours, we talked about everything else. Popular topics included: Pets, past and current relationships and friendships, things we love about A Practical Wedding, etc.

Beer and fish’n chips were consumed. Also, cake.

Alyssa and Kristy were kind enough to bring some nifty-gifties, check it:

I love the “Exactly!” button from Alyssa! So cute!

Kristy brought us these (do I have to add freaking adorable…or do you get it?) wedding-elf ornaments. My favorite part is the beard. Also, you can see Tupac hangin’ out, getting ready to attack said ornament…and the vacuum with which Isaiah completely cleaned the apartment while I was gone for the day (right?).

Alyssa also brought A Practical Wedding magnets made from the header image of APW, something most of us see often enough (shown above) and these bookmarks from a recent suggested catchphrase, “Shame blasters Activate! Pew pew pew!” There was a second bookmark (not shown) that said, “Eff the WIC” on one side and “APW Army” on the other.

Too cute, right?

Anyways, I present: The girls from the Dallas meetup.

Did you get a chance to attend your local meetup? If you aren’t sure if you want to or are too nervous, I recommend it. Not every group can be as awesome as the Dallas group (feel free to roll your eyes dramatically), but there will be an awesome group of girls no matter what.

If you did…I wanna hear about it (if it’s on your blog, feel free to leave the link if you want!).

In the meantime, check out KWu’s awesome recap on A Jersey Hootenanny Wedding.

So so glad you got to do it! And what cute crafties! There wasn’t one in my area, I almost drove six hours to the Chicago one. Then reality kicked in and I found other things to do, which involved other priorities!

I completely understand…Maybe you could start one in your area?! How rad would that be?

I’m kicking myself for missing the Chicago meetup 😦 But after reading about your experience, I’m for sure going to the next one!!!

Aw I love the crafty goodness! I made an applesauce cake which went over pretty well, but I would’ve loved a magnet or elf too. Thanks for the link love.

Soooo jealous of all you awesome-sauce chickas who get to meet up. Things like this make me sad I live in the middle of no-where Saskatchewan land…

Oh no!! Well maybe you can talk to Meg about starting one or join in on the recaps and discussion on the site itself, eh?

Dang, sounds like a lot of fun – I missed the San Francisco one because I was at a (wait for it) wedding out of town.

Sounds like a lovely chill out day well spent! 🙂
By the way, how do you make your pics look vintage? Its awesome!

    cute ladies and cute gifts!

  10. November 8, 2010 11:08 pm

Wow, I’m amazed at the crafty gifts. So cool.

I’m so jealous that I didn’t get to attend a meetup (the first one in Minneapolis was so fun). First I tried to see if there were any other other Fargo-area ladies. No luck. So I rsvped to the Minneapolis meetup. But then my boss asked me to work a special event, and, being new, I said yes. But then my family decided to have my grandfather’s funeral this weekend, so I attempted to reach out to the Florida APWers. No luck there either. Or well, I’m doing the next one for sure!

    DAMN IT I WANT SWAG.

The end. I did not get to attend my local meet-up, in case you were wondering. Grr. I’m going to go to one in disguise soon. I think it will be lower stress that way.
