Geek Out: DIY Edition

I’ve been geeking out lately over some DIY tutorials around the web. A lot of the tutorials I find are so adorable…but not our style at all. I found a little collection that have been filling my wedding bookmark list for a while now. Enjoy the DIY Edition of Geek Out!

This painted tube wedding decor tutorial is fantastically done. I think it’s so interesting looking and a great way to add some cheap swank to a DIY wedding. I thought it was a nice change of pace from the vintage DIY tutorials that are everywhere. Have I stroked your ego enough, painted-tube-art? I hope so. This one’s from The City Cradle.

I am so far away from the rice-thrower-level-details of our wedding that I can’t even see it with a telescope. Pretty sure that’s Pluto though…sorry, buddy. Aww…he’s crying…that’s sad. Anyway, this rice-tosser tutorial was on Style Me Pretty recently. Just because our wedding doesn’t have its act together doesn’t mean yours doesn’t right? The tutorial seems so easy it could be done in a day!

I have to admit something. Isaiah’s and my collection of cake stands is about as existant as our collection of Precious Moments figurines. I look at cake bars and I think they are wonderful looking. But where in the world do those cake stands come from..and what does the couple do with them after the day? Are they artwork around the new place after the wedding? Anyway, this super-easy and way cute tutorial is from Austin Wedding Blog. They look pretty sustainable too…maybe a good take-home-favor for families or something?

I have a wedding blog crush on The Wedding Chicks. I shouldn’t really have to explain why…they have awesome freebies, a great shop and way-too-cute content all the time. One of the biggest earners of “awww”s from me. This tutorial is for a DIY wedding cake…I think a small assortment of these might make a way-cute cake topper.

My great-grandma (celebrating her 91st birthday this year) goes to quilting every week. She has a quilting group that is so marvelously entertaining that Golden Girls can just go off the air…oh wait. Anyways, she taught my cousin and I to sew at around 4 years old and I have always loved sewing. I don’t have time for sewing anymore so much…but I love embroidering and cross stitch. I’m just starting a couple of new projects…and where better to find inspiration than the new, fantastic trend of doing away with patterns and making something crafty-beautiful. I’ve been keeping myself busy…Christmas presents for everyone!

Oh man, if you don’t sew or cross stitch or knit or embroider already, it’s a way-easy way to express your creativity. If you pick a simple project, too, you can make something beautiful in a day. Enjoy the geek-out fest and if you finish one of the tutorials…props. They are pretty to look at though, eh?
