The Dress
I am not beginning my hunt for the dress yet. However, I do have a few ideas for dresses I love. Every prom, homecoming, gala dress I have ever worn has been tea-length. Don’t ask me why. I always go into the store with the intention of purchasing a full-length gown, but I just look best in a sweetheart neckline, a-line, tea-length organza or tulle dress. Every time, without fail.
I’ve been browsing for the dress “look” I want, although I refuse to buy anything to wear on the wedding without seeing it in person and trying it on. So, the beginning of the madness: the dress “look.”
I found this flirty frock on Vera Wang, although it’s not in the current collection, so all the more reason to just gather ideas:
It’s a little more simple than I had expected, but it’s got the right length and I love that neckline. I would say it’s my least favorite out of the four, though.
This fantastic dress is the short-version of (I can’t believe I’m referencing this) Carrie’s dress from Sex and the City from Vivienne Westwood:
It rings up at an astonishing $9,000+ dollars (for the short version), and oh-so-unfortunately, it’s all sold-out. (dripping with sarcasm). I do love the look though, it’s elegant and different from what I’m used to.
Surprisingly, this Project Runway designed gown is my second favorite. I have never watched the show and am not particularly fond of reality TV, but I do love this dress, found on Wedding Paper Divas:
I even love the headpiece.
The last and favorite of the list was featured on Poptastic Bride this morning, and I LOVE it:
Really. I love it. No, wait….really. I love it.
Which one’s your fave? Are you going with a short/long/ankle/paper/duct tape dress?
#3 and #4!!! They both have this spunky, fun kinda vibe going on.
Still don’t have my dress yet… I know. 72 days out!!!
p.s. I know what you mean by not believing you’re referencing Sex in the City… I find myself thinking the same thing when I do it. Kind of weird we feel the need to reference tv (even tv that we don’t really like) to give meaning to something.
@Angie: Thanks! Those are definitely my two favorites! I can’t be too specific about dress details because I suppose I’m still a little old-fashioned and want it to be a surprise to Isaiah.
Don’t worry! It’ll happen for you, have you checked out fashioninthebox.com or unique-vintage? I can’t say anything about the quality or experience, but they have some really cute, affordable dresses on there. I saw some I fell in love with for $150
ModCloth is really non-traditional for wedding dresses, but I have seen some REALLY cute ones there!
I know! I do it all the time, really.
I just left a comment at Bunnies n’ Beagles and referenced Saved By The Bell and thought of this post again. I watch too much tv.
You mentioned fashioninthebox and I did check it out. I’m always scared to order things online because I have a hard time with dresses fitting the top and the bottom of my body. I figure if I get something with a defined natural waist it will leave room for my hips. Maybe.
And LOVE Modcloth. Except for the fact that I bought a coat from there ones and it was too small. Totally my fault, though. But another reason I’m weary of the online clothes shopping.
That last dress is completely GORGEOUS!!
If I were to do it over I think I’d go with a short dress! Have a great weekend!
@Angie: It happens to the best of us. Isaiah ordered me a birthday present…the first t-shirt with my first graphics project ever printed on it. We were thinking of designing small-time t-shirts and what not, and he ordered a women’s shirt from cafe press and got back a shirt that fits him. It’s now the world’s best night-shirt. No one reads the size measurements anymore once you’ve found YOUR size.
@Dandelion: Thanks! I think so too…may have to make a leap here in a few weeks. Thanks for the tip! That’s what I figured I would be like too…but I saw your dress on Bride in a Bird Cage today and you were STUNNING in that floor-length beauty!
Oh Lizzie, I have to agree, number four is awesome!!!!! I can totally picture you in that kind of dress, something pretty, but spunky which is basically what comes to mind when I think LIZZIE! I think that the tea length dress is a good idea, especially if it’s what you are comfortable with. Because why be uncomfortable in a long dress if it’s not you?! I think it’s awesome. 🙂
@Sami: Thanks!! I totally agree!
I find the Vivienne Westwood dress really gorgeous..
Yeah, it’s SO expensive! Haha. It was more of a “Love this look.” haha.
White House Black Market actually has a totally beautiful wedding dress that reminds me of that Vivienne Westwood dress – it has this pretty crumbcatcher top and it’s floor length in the back and knee length in the front, which sounds bizarre, but it’s really fun!! I tried it on at the Houston Galleria store (I think they have them at the NYC and LA and some other locations, but Houston is the only one in TX) and loved it – absolutely elegant and unique and really flattering! I think it’s around $500.
