Playlist: Don’ts.

May 27, 2010

We are music nuts. As I’ve said a million times before, Isaiah was in a kick-ass rock band in Illinois, and I am interning at KXT (I’m also a completely devout, fanatical listener). We got started on the playlist asap, and we have, with help from Hi-Fi Weddings and Poptastic Bride. Our problem is that we, apparently, love music that is impossible to dance to. So here’s the unusable wedding playlist. Either because it’s actually a sad, anti-love song, or because you can’t dance anything but the new-age-sway to it.

We’re coming to a very sad conclusion that none of our favorites will be playable at the wedding. We’ve got a short span during dinner where we can play un-danceable music, but our rock favorites will be absent? That’s unacceptable. Isaiah sold me on the conclusion last night at the best show I’ve been to, that The Life and Times will be on the playlist no matter what.

So what to do, what to do…create a classics-favorite playlist of music we’re “okay” with, but everybody can boogie to, or pepper in some of our faves and just hope people are cool with the ear-gasm that follows.

Thought it was enjoyable though, so dig in.

    #23 One of my fave.
#15 YESSSSSSSSS!!! “Sugar dumplin’ muffin baby!!!”
#20 Oh my goodness… if I could go back in time to the first time I saw that music video
    #3 Mmmmm dreamy.
    #9 Her voice is addicting.

I’ve been keeping a list at work and the only appropriate dancing is some serious grindage and yes, the new-age-sway. Gotta figure out how to make that work.

And how sweet is Hi-Fi Weddings?

@Angie: I completely agree. Would LOVE a post on your wedding playlist! Hi-Fi Weddings is really saving my ass a bit. I’m checking out their 80’s-90’s dance tunes and loving going on the journey of the playlists at work. Some are just reminding me of songs that I would have maybe forgotten, and others are really takin me to a new dance-tastic level with the playlist.

Thanks for checkin it out, you already know how awesome you are.

awww yay glad i can help a little bit!!! 🙂

LOVE that playlist you created!!! and i say…it’s y’alls wedding, so do what you want. my husband and i were kinda worried about the same thing, but then we just said “whatevs” and included what we wanted. you could always come up with a “dance mix” in addition to the other “general” list just in case?

oh, and you know you’ve totally got a feature waiting for you on the site right? xoxo

Ah! We are coming up with the same problem! We have all sorts of awesome music that isn’t really danceable and no one would know it. I do think we are going to keep with mainly music people know. They are way more likely to dance if they know it. And we’ll put in a few random dance songs.

So far I’m stuck with all the typical wedding dance songs for older people (Frank Sinatra, much?) and then club music (Gaga, much?). We are going to talk to some aunts/uncles/friends and get some of their suggestions to include.

Hopefully I’ll stop being lazy and post on our playlist soon.

@hi-fi: You are wonderful, and no, I didn’t know til now, but that made me all kinds of happy for Friday!

@Jen: Yes, definitely. Seems a typical problem. I am happy to say that I have never heard a single Lady Gaga song and I don’t have a single clue what she sounds like. Although I don’t understand why I’m so against hearing her, because she is obviously brilliant for creating such a brand in herself. Definitely check out Hi-Fi Wedding playlists…I listen to them at work and if I find myself bouncin around in my chair and wanting to start a 30-rock style “1-minute-dance-party” in the office, I know it must be on the list.

I know what you mean! My favorite songs would make people do the most awkward dances (which maybe I want 🙂 ). Anyways, good music choices! I love to see what other people are playing
